Yesterday was a wonderful day. We finalized the adoption of our youngest daughter, Grace. It was a full day of the adoption hearing, going out to lunch, and having a family party at home last night. I have tried to explain to her what being adopted means. I wondered what she understood about it, being a 7 year old who has never really known consistent long-term relationships, let alone forever.
Today, as I was lying on the couch, little Grace sat by my, rubbed my hair and said, "Mom, I'm glad I'm stuck with you." I giggled and said, "Gracie, I'm glad I'm stuck with you, too." Then she kissed my forehead and skipped off for a snack.
That's what family is- no matter how you come together, it's knowing that you're "stuck" with each other through thick and thin, forever. And that's a good thing.
